Looking for something to do with babies or small children? Why not bring them along to SMUFF?
SMUFF stands for St Mary's Under Fives and Friends, a group run by St Mary's Church for babies and children under five and the people who care for them. We meet in term time on Tuesday afternoon (1.45pm-3.30pm) and Thursday morning (9.45am-11.30am) in St Mary's Welcome Centre, opposite St Mary's Church in Church End, Walthamstow. Entry is FREE.
You'll find a warm welcome from regular volunteers who are parents themselves, lots of toys with a separate baby corner in a large, airy hall, other people caring for small children for you to meet, and other small children for them to play with. Our sessions are quite structured, with time for free play, singing, storytelling, refreshments and a colouring, sticking or other craft activity. We encourage adults to help the children they bring to engage with all that we do in whatever way suits their age and stage. It is amazing how soon young babies enjoy the singing time!
As a Church group, what we do is influenced by our Christian faith. The songs we sing with the children are about God and the stories we tell are from the Bible. The songs are fun to sing, many have familiar tunes and actions and the children get the chance to play along with percussion instruments. We aim to tell the stories in a way the children can understand and enjoy.
Do come along and give us a try, whatever your own beliefs. Whether or not they share our faith, many people have kept coming to SMUFF for years because they make friends, the children have fun and they feel they belong.
