Local, long-established fishmonger, Davies and Sons have been curing gammons on their premises for the past seven years. Owner, Steve Davies says: “We’ve always cured our own salmon, haddock and cod and extending our range to hams was a natural step that’s proved very popular with our customers.” The locally-sourced hams are hung in his traditional kiln and allowed to absorb the fragrant smoke from smouldering oak and beech chips giving them a light aroma and delicious, mellow flavour. The gammons are ready for collection about ten days before Christmas but it’s best to make your order well before then.
Naturally, Davies and Sons also provide the full range of Christmas fish favourites, including home-cured Scottish salmon, many varieties of prawns and Sea Bass. The company was founded in East London in 1860 by Steve’s great-grandfather and has remained a family business ever since.
